Unit 7, Section 1 wordlist and summary

Section 1 Wordlist

Mass – a quantity of matter
Uranium – a radio active rock
Radio active – possessing or producing energy from breaking up of atoms.
Kinetic – involving or producing movement
Potential – possible as opposed to actual
Torch – a small light that is held in the hand, usually gets its power from batteries.
Thermal – of, connected with or preserving heat


Summary  What is Energy?

Energy is the ability of an object to transform itself or transform other objects.

Forms of Energy – mechanical, chemical, electrical, thermal, light and nuclear energy.

Mechanical – deals with Kinetic or Potential energy

Kinetic = movement, depends on mass and volume of object.
Potential = possibility to move. Depends on mass and position of an object.

Chemical energy – from chemical change
Electrical energy – from electricity, through wires.
Thermal – heat.
Light – natural source, and artificial.
Nuclear energy – separating the atom of a radio-active substance.
